A fire alarm tells people to get out. Suppression stops the fire. In a server room, a plant room or under a kitchen canopy, the difference between those two things is the difference between an incident and a closure.
There is no single suppression system that suits every risk. What goes in depends on what you are protecting, what else is in the room, whether people work in it, and what happens to the business if that room is out of action for a month. We specify against the risk rather than against a catalogue.
Suppression is also the discipline where installation quality is least visible and most important. A system that has never discharged looks identical whether it was commissioned properly or not.
